MONASTERY INSIGHT WALK

Founded in the 12th century, Walkenried Monastery was once one of the richest and most important Cistercian monasteries in Germany. Even today, the monastery and its 900 years of eventful history characterize the village.

Set off on a fascinating journey through history and discover the former monastery district and its immediate surroundings on the 2 km Monastery Insight Walk.

On this themed walk with its 13 stops you will get to know the impressive Gothic monastery complex as well as further important historic buildings and locations from after the time when the monastery was active.
